Rivets, on the other hand, are permanent fastening devices. They are typically used to connect two or more pieces of material together, such as metals or plastics. A rivet consists of a shank and a head; the shank is inserted through the holes of the materials to be connected and then the head is deformed to create a second end, thus locking the materials together.
